Hello
I have an issue with none microstation user colleagues moving photos & pdfs i have attached to a microstaiton drawings or moving the project file completely, which then drops the links to the raster files attached. Is there a way i can make Microstation automatically save relative path to raster files?.
The photos i attach are from different folders each time so setting it to one folder is not what im looking for. I just want it to auto save relative path.
I looked through loads of existing questions on this but i could not seem to find a relative answer. Im using Descartes stand alone V8I Series 5
Thanks

Configuration variables provide a better way. Unlike a relative path, a configuration variable can point to a non-relative path such as a different drive.
See Making Portable Reference Attachments in MicroStation help.

I have been trying to add a new path to expansion but nothing shows up.
im not sure what details i am putting in which box, tried a few variations and still nothing shows up. Currently in expansion is the path to programme files where microstation is. Adding New is not working. Do you know what to put in each box below?
Variable
New Value
Expansion
There is no solution to find the raster file in a folder not known to you. You'll figure out the configuration setting, but you need some basic company rules for file storage so you can know ahead of time where the raster file is.

i know where the files are kept its just different for every project but i was trying to set it to a higher folder so once the project is complete and the file is moved from "current projects" to "complete projects" it retains the paths.
For example. The file path would be as follows
Projects/current_projects/Private/Draw_photo/photos/2019
I was trying to set the expansion to "Projects" so it covers anything moved around under that.
There is no chance the company will let me redesign the digital filing system to account for CAD issues. I cant even reset expansion even if they would lol
If you do not use customized configuration files for each project you may have a hard time accomplishing the task at hand. The power of configuration files is invaluable. You do not need to worry about saving relative paths with config variables defined properly. Using MS_DEF & MS_RFDIR will handle finding the files as long as you have the folders defined to be searched for references. If the folder structure is standardized and the only thing that changes when moving files to a new drive or server all you need to do is change the definition of MS_DEF. You don't need to redefine your digital filing system. You will need to research configuration variables. At minimum you should have project specific configuration files to alleviate your problem.

I see a few of you using MS_??? descriptions. can you explain what you mean by this?

How?
Search for Working with Configuration Variables in your Help file. This is a very broad subject and would take a long time to explain everything. It will take time for you to set some stuff up. Their is also an Administration forum to post specific questions once you get into it if you choose to do so.
