Colored Labels in Ribbon

Hi,

I keep my ribbon minimized.  I have multiple custom tools that I have added to the Microstation V8i (SS3) pull-down menu and to the Microstation Connect Ribbon.  In Microstation V8i, I have several sub-menus that work very well.  In Microstation Connect, I have had to split these out into multiple ribbon tabss (some of them with additional pull-down tools).  The increased number of tabs makes it harder to find the one that you want immediately.

Is there anyway to add color to the ribbon tab labels?  Either a background color or a text color?  Would this be useful for anyone?

Of course the alternate would be to provide an option for a pull-down menu...

  • Hi Bob,

Nice screen shot.  It's good to know that I'm not the only one who tries to work with a minimized ribbon.  I do have three screens on my system.  I use two for Microstation and one for auxiliary programs.  I also wind up using virtual desktops to run more applications and switch between Microstation sessions.  But I'm leaving the topic at hand...

I like your edge-docked tools.  Most of those I either have opened on the second screen, or I have pull-down access through my docked "Primary Tools" toolbar.  As far as minimizing the number of items on the ribbon, I would like avoid that.  I really don't want to have to switch ribbons (task vs drawing vs custom...) to get to tools.  The tools should be at my finger-tips for easy "discoverability", not hidden deep in the system.

Thanks for the suggestions, and the screen shot.

  • I use the Search Ribbon tool, upper right, for discoverability. For some, Task Navigation is just too brief.

Warning- There are issues with hiding the ribbon and the edge docked tools. Connect is a long way from a finished product.

  • But Bob...  Microstation V8i (SS3) is now longer supported as of January 1st.  Microstation V8i (SS4) is the absolute end of the V8i series and has bugs that mess up printing.  They were reluctant to and/or would not take my SR's for it, because there was not going to be another one released.  Microstation V8i (SS10) is "just (SS4) with the licensing changed".  If you are saying,

Connect is a long way from a finished product.

then that means that as of January 1st, Bentley does not have a supported production drafting software!

P.S.  We are still Beta testing Microstation CE in our office..  Once they come out with another beta version which doesn't damage our dgn files and incapacitate our vba routines, I may be able to test further.  I hope they will call that beta release something like "CE U14", or "CE U15", or "CE U16"...

  • We're all beta testing Connect. Apparently that's the process Bentley has chose to employ to iron out the software. They will keep v8i ss10 as long as they need to (I read the email). They've never been hard and firm with dates or any other commitments to customers. I'm glad they got Microstation to 64 bit, we're all disappointed in how they did it. It's like they put the "B" team on it.
