Is anyone successfully using a cloud storage solution (such as Box.com) to store project files? If so, does this seem to be an issue with the software accessing said files that are not stored locally on the network?
we've been working for a few years effectively with files stored on Dropbox. since all files are locally stored on local disks (synced by Dropbox desktop app) so far no issue with such files. once project is finished, all files are packed encrypted and stored on cloud only. btw, we use Boxcryptor to enhance security of files stored on cloud.

The best way to keep your stuff in order is by using a cloud storage service that allows you to easily upload files from any device without manually transferring them. The main idea is to store everything in one place where you can easily access it from anywhere; for example, if you use more than one computer at home or work, you don't want to be stuck with your stuff on each of them. Good online services like https://fastupload.io/en will offer free space and plenty of extra options for a small price—a great solution for those who are constantly running out of space.
