To start I would like to note that I'm just the IT guy and my experience with MicroStation is limited to none. Where do I need to put my files so they will populate the drop-down list in the CONNECT configuration assistant tool? I launch Connect, click file, click settings, click configuration assistant, configuration assistant opens, but the select V8i workspace drop-down is empty. There is no information provided in the program about where the program is looking or which files it is looking for. V8i was installed with all of the default values (IE file paths), so if the tool is looking in a default location it should see the files. Is there a way to export the workspaces from V8i SS2 to a format that Connect edition can handle? V8i SS2 is the version we have available. We don't have access to newer versions of V8i. We do have access to the older V8 but I doubt that will help in this situation.
The Configuration Assistant allows you to select the V8i Workspace location.
The configuration of V8i Workspaces varies between organisations so if possible speak with your administrator responsible, but this article may be of help locating this, alternatively you could create a debug file
I have went through the articles you linked to and I have found problems with the documentation. The first link to the config assistant says I should be able to click browse for the workspace but it wants me to select something from the drop down first. When I click browse, a popup opens that says "Select the V8i WorkSpace you want to migrate" But it is blank so I can't select anything. Here is a screenshot of the popup.
The second link says to click the workspaces tab but that tab is not on the ribbon. Again, here is a screenshot.
I know where the files are at, and they are where they should be, the issue is that the config assistant is not showing them.
It would appear from your images above that you have V8i installed, although this might not be the case and the files are left behind from a previous install.
Do you have MicroStation V8i installed and configured on this PC and is it finding the v8i WorkSpace ok ? If not please install and configure you Workspace, then try the CONNECT Configuration assistant again to see if its selectable.
V8i is not and was never installed on this test system. I copied the files from a user's system to that location on the test system. Is having V8i installed a requirement for using the config assistant in the Connect edition?
Thank you for the confirmation, it is currently a requirement to have V8i installed/configured.
However as there may be instances as in your case where V8i is not installed, Enhancement Request 1112240 has been filed requesting that the Configuration Assistant have the ability to read V8i Workspace without the application. This is targeted for Update 16
