Thank you for your response.

Please excuse the lack of information, I don't know if my question was clear, perhaps I left out details. The comment I made about

"The Color Table location was not defined in the Configuration Variable MS_DEFCTBL, but by default the program looks for the CT at this location: C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Data"

was not quoted from anywhere, I was simply stating a fact from my experience when I opened the Color Table dialog box.

Again, like mentioned in my original comment, "I recently switched to MicroStation Connect Edition" from the old MS(SS10) version and haven't defined any resource files to a SEED file. When I clicked on "Open" in the Color Table dialog box it directed me to the path mentioned above "C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Data".

Based on your response above it seems that my best option would be to manually attach the desired Color Table to all of the ".dgn files" including the SEED files for this project, since I have already created a significant amount of base files and sheets. This will guarantee that all the files will have the proper CT attached moving forward.

The project I'm currently working on will be my first one on the new MS Connect Edition so there will be a big learning curve for me, but moving Forward I will take your advice about attaching the CT to the Seed file like you mentioned:
If this is a new project, then going forward you may want to attach the required colortable in the seed file you are using to generate files.
Thank you very much Timothy!

Respectfully,

RE: How to set a Color Table path for entire project in MicroStation?

there are a few misconceptions in your statement.

by default the program looks for the CT at this location: C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Data

where are you getting this information from ? if you are concluding that when the dialog is opened, it is looking there, this is only a bookmarker on what folder to open the dialog to - this has nothing to do with any search done for a colortable. If you browse to some other folder and pick a colortable, MicroStation will then remember this folder as the last placed browsed (again having nothing to do with a search).

also the MS_DEFCTBL is only used if there is no colortable attached in the design file and this needs to be pointed to a specific colortable and not a folder (again this is not used for a search). So if there is a colortable already attached to the design file, this variable is ignored.

If this is a new project, then going forward you may want to attach the required colortable in the seed file you are using to generate files.

If this is an existing project and you want to change all the existing files to have the same colortable attached then this may be a manual process. I don't see a variable controlling this.

hope this helps.

RE: How to set a Color Table path for entire project in MicroStation?

Hello, thank you for your response.

C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Data

I changed the Configuration Variable MS_DEFCTBL to point to a local network directory as follows:

the Key-In 'CT= ' does not work for me, I was not able to test this method.

RE: How to set a Color Table path for entire project in MicroStation?

could you give a few more details on what you have tried and the results you are getting ?

RE: How to set a Color Table path for entire project in MicroStation?

Please can you provide a little more information on the steps you have taken.

Have you set the var MS_DEFCTBL? See this Wiki

Perhaps there is a color table attached to the file (Seed FIle) already? You can use the Key-In 'CT= ' to verify (Note the space after the =)

Could the problem be with the network path? What happens if you try the var pointing to a local color table is all OK

At which Configuration Level have you set the variable, and how is it defined?
