Hi,
Windows 10 Pro, parallel installations of Microstation 7/J, Microstation V8i(SS3), Microstation CE U17.2, Microstation 2023
I would like to set my .DWG files to open with Microstation 2023. When I right-click and select "Open with", I get a choice of Microstation V8i or Microstation Connect. When I say "Choose another app" and select Microstation 2023--Microstation.exe, Windows opens the dwg file with Microstation CE U17.2.
How do I choose Microstation 2023 in the "open with" dialog? Or, How do I set Microstation 2023 to be the default to open .dwg files?
--Thanks,--Robert Arnold
I have a RegEdit fix for this.
In "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dwg\OpenWithprogids", create a new "string value" and set it to "BentleyMicrostationDesign.dgn.2023".
If you are familiar with RegEdit, then you know the risks of editing the registry and the backup recommendations. If you are not familiar with these, you can easily "break" the registry and prevent Windows from ever starting again! Use at your own risk!
--Thanks,--Robert
MicroStation 2023 is shown for DGN, but as you report not listed for DGN, I will ask if we are aware of this behaviour.
In the meantime avoid the registry like this:

In Windows 10, I do not have "Choose an app on this PC" in that settings dialog.
Please see the attached video. This would be the Windows 10 equivalent, I think.
The setup:1) Microstation CE U17 installed.2) Microstation CE U17 set at the default for .dwg files3) Install Microstation 2023 and run it for the first time.4) Set the default program for .dwgs to Microstation 2023--microstation.exe5) Watch Microstation CE U17 open the dwg file instead of Microstation 2023.
Ok, we'll have to take a look at that, the process you show is exactly what I would do. I'll take a look on a win 10 machine.
I have the same issue with RobertArnold, not have the settings you mentioned up.
