I am having problems laying out the project configuration file. When I use the same configuration file on two separate computers, I get different results. How do I make sure the configuration is pointing ONLY to the locations which I want it to for line styles, cells, and fonts?
I feel your pain ..I''ve been thrown in the deep end before with exactly the same issue.. "your the cad guy why cant you set it up the system for everyone?" and your not the IT guy either right?
There a couple of ways to achieve this
The most time consuming one and not guaranteed is get your work to PAY for you to do the Administators course with Bentley and then set it up by the book.
or Pay Bentley to come in and set up a network configuration that suits you needs and get them to document how it works and how IT should configure and instal new users ( not cheap)
or Get a third party and PAY them to do this for you like a experienced Microstation user that has some administrator skills..
or
buy a third party application that will help you define all the user configurations on the network and set up your project standards and project folders... this is relatively inexpensive...my personal preference where ever I have worked in the last 10- 15 years with microstation .. is Caddpro by Adam Lambert.
He is an Aussie like me but he can still set it up for you with your assistance by phone, email etc once its done and with some documentation users wont even know its there and everything will work as a network defined system for standards and custom projects and you can then be the quasi administrator and new users added just by copying a default folder and renaming it to the user login name and changing the user name in a few scripts in the folder... too easy if you ask me...oh heaps of other advantages is he throws in a whole suit of custom tools that will save you hundreds of man hours per user per year ....especially the title block manager and some great tag tools for reports and populating drawings to and from excel to and from drgs and can provide some extra customisation of those tools to your specific needs... plus he's a really nice guy to deal with...
If you cant find his web page in google email me off line and I'll send you his email address...
Good luck... and happy plotting
