I just bought some logitech g300 mice and would like to map the extra buttons in MicroStation for various commands and/or key-strokes. When I'm in the Button Mapping dialog, MicroStation only recognizes the mouse's buttons #4 and #5. When I click on the "Button Definition Area" with the #6, 7, 8, or 9 button, nothing happens. Anyone else have any success with mapping extra buttons for this, or any other mice?
I'm running ABD 8.11.09.704 (although I have the same problems in SS4 & SS3) on,
Windows 7
Kind Regards,

Hi Scott
I even experimented with my G500 mice. There is currently no way to get more than 5 buttons without loosing functionality of the mouse. The Logitech Device setup has only 5 standard buttons, and while MicroStation is able to use up to 16 (i.e. for older digitizer devices) the Logitech setup will not support this.
You have a chance to setup your mice button with a macro that calls some F-Key function (i.e. STRG+ALT+F1) and setup this F-Key combination in MicroStation accordingly, but that will almost override the standard behaviour of the mice button at all.
Beside this I feel comfortable enough with 5 customizeable buttons (plus a LM+RM combination for pan), my brain would get confused with too many of them ;-)

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the reply. So it's a Logitech issue? Do any other manufacturer's mice with more than 5 buttons work with MicroStation? i.e. can you map their buttons directly in the "Map Button" dialog box?

Not sure, tested with a space explorer, which wasn't even able to provide more than the 3 standard buttons, evrything else has to be driven via F-key macros for 3D connexion devices (talked to their support).
Seen more than 5 buttons only with (old) digitizer mices, but the last one I had really used was a WACOM Digitizer II, nearly 10 years ago ;-) And even WACOM does no longer provide digitizer tablets in that kind (only pen driven today).
You might ask Logitech or Razer if their MMO mices provide support for extended mice buttons, just like the old tablets did. Perhaps You even know someone, who has such a thing. A Razer Naga Hex would be really nice ;-) even better (imo) as those 12 thumb button giants.
We've choosen the Logitech G500 for a perfect 'fit in hand', not for button count or configuration abilities. We don't even draw all day, as we are more software developer and support provider.

Hi,
Here's the trick in my office. Have the buttons on the mouse assigned to send a keystroke of a modified-F key stroke (like Ctrl-Shift-F12). Then have the Microstation function keys assigned to the correct key-in to execute the command that you want.

Just like I did with the space explorer (translate the german STRG+ALT+F1 to CTRL+ALT+F1 - just a typo)
