I am attempting to setup a network workspace that incorporates some of the settings of the Bentley Civil workspaces. However, I need the result to use my user and Project. As I recall, the software updates the cfg pointed to by the variable _USTN_DEFAULTUSER_CFG_FILE so that when you launch a new session, it has a default users and project to load. Since setting up the workspace, I cannot get the software to remember the last used user and project.
I open MicroStation and it is set to one the examples user. I then change it to one of our users and a standard project. However, if I open a file, the CFG settings are still seeing the example project settings. I can Close (Ctrl+W) and confirm my current user and project, but the old settings from the examples are still being used. If I then exit and start a new session, it again defaults to the examples.
Do you have write access to the directory and file is located? Sounds like it may be a permissions issue on the folder.
I think you are misunderstanding what the file is and what it does. That file should be READ/WRITE accessible. MicroStation uses this to store the name of the last user selected. Is there a specific reason you are attempting to change this ?

No, I understand the purpose of this file. I am changing the user in the MicroStation Manager and in the past, this modified that file to make the default user for the next session the same user as set in MicroStation Manager. When the user was not being recalled, I looked at the contents of the file and found it to be retaining the other values.
However, whatever was causing this has somehow corrected itself. It lasted for a day or two and finally began WAD.
Thanks for your efforts. I'm chalking this one up to gremlins.
