My advice would be to look at using a custom cfg file that can be placed in the appl directory for each MicroStation install. There are many ways to achieve this, including using your users login scripts.

Have a contingency plan for when your network/server goes down.

No, it doesn't happen often, but when it does, you'll have an entire office full of people sitting there unable to work.

Plan for it.

Thanks Jon, I will check there, I was looking for a white paper or something which would remind me how to do this, but as I recall, it didn't have to be done for each project, only those using a different set of standards, i.e. if a client had specific requirements. I will do some light reading on the topic under the MicroStation Help, and see if the light bulb comes back on, I've been away from MicroStation for a couple years, but in my new position, will be back to a daily user in the very near future.

Good thinking! That's what most people (i.e. CAD Administrators) would do, and that's what MicroStation is designed to achieve.

In MicroStation Help, start with the chapter Setting Up Projects. There's a lot in there, but start reading about Workspaces and Workspace Configuration. It's through configuration variables that you tell MicroStation where to look for files and other resources.

Probably not the best source of advice. Not only is it possible to have files stored on a network, but for most people that's the preferred way of working. There are plenty of people on this Forum have done just what you need to do and are willing and able to provide help.
