In this article we will provide an overview of what Web Services Gateway is and how it can be used.
Web Services Gateway is a server-side application that opens a communication channel between Bentley’s Apps for mobile devices and Bentley’s project information management systems.
Bentley Web Services Gateway (WSG) is a server application that runs on both 64-bit Windows Server 2008 and 2012 editions. The application is comprised of 2 main components. The first component is the WSG framework which uses a REST web services API to communicate with the mobile apps to authenticate along with send and receive information. The second component is a set of providers which communicates directly with individual management systems. These providers can be installed, configured and updated individually depending on what types of information you would like to have accessible in the mobile apps. Having 2 separate components allows the apps to communicate with WSG in a singular common language regardless of the server it is connecting to.
