Featured LEARNing from the Road & Site LEARNing Conference: Transportation Asset Management Evolution

Bentley's Russell Page, Director, Solutions Architecture for Transportation Asset Management (TAM), presented on the "Transportation Asset Management Evolution" stating "information is the foundation of asset management" and noting the process "needs to be more connected to transportation planning and design" for a more strategic approach.

Russell showed how TAM is becoming more strategic highlighting benefits of strategic asset management, including:

  • Alignment of processes, resources and functional contributions
  • Transparent audit trail of what is done, when and why
  • Better understanding and usage of data and info for informed and consistent decisions

"Poor asset lifecycle management is expensive - when integrity drops 8%, employee productivity drops 50%".

As TAM becomes more strategic, the traditional silos between asset classes are being removed as are the traditional silos between functions. Russell identified several drivers forcing this rapid evolution:

  •               Limited financial resources
  •               Aging infrastructure
  •               Increasing congestion
  •               Increased public awareness
  •               Environmental awareness
  •               Increased safety targets

What do you think? What are the key drivers in your organization? What's missing from this list?
