Problem, Cause , and Remedy

We are looking into utilizing the “problem, cause and remedy” areas of Bentley.

Im wondering if any user out there that use Problem, Cause and Remedy in Bentley,

how do you define each portion?

how do you make the problem, cause and remedy interact with failure type and classifications?

can you share any lists of example Problem, causes and remedies?

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problem, cause and remedy were seldom exploited in earlier versions of APM/Ivara SuprEAM by most users. This is actually quite common with most EAMs as EAM implementations tend to be focused on the large visibility functionality such as Work Management, Asset Management, Purchasing, Inventory Management, etc, and often this functionality is an afterthought. Many users try to implement this functionality themselves but do not have a focused plan on how to get meaningful, actionable outputs as they are often too broad in defined their value list items.

Over time, Asset Performance Management functionality has developed more in-depth failure categorization, failure analysis and reliability program improvement methodologies. These far surpass the more simplistic Problem, Cause and Remedy functionality. We call this business process Performance Management of Failures. In later versions of APM release 7,  Problem, Cause and Remedy have been deprecated for the more informative the Failure Severity, Failure Type/Failure Classification and Mitigation / Damage Mechanism / Template Corrective Work Order Task classes.

Bentley users can be supplied with Business Process Maps and consulting to help get this started at your operation. Contact your Bentley Account Manager, User Advocate or Bentley Services Consultant to get a copy of these.
