After a period of dornmancy, the smart client auto-logoff will kick the user. This is not a gentle logout whereby all dialogues are closed and transaction rolled back smoothly. Locks and connections are left orphaned which eventually results in performance issues and eventually performance issues.
The auto-log of issue is being investigated in VSTS #14313. Until this is resolved, users are instructed to turn off the auto-logoff feature.
