Installation Step:

When installing an APM Server to run as a Service, the installation flows through this step:

To Register the Service

On an elevated console, register the service by running the following:

netsh http add urlacl url=protocol://+:port/ user=”ServerUser”

where:

• protocol is either http or https

• port is the port you selected in settings.

• ServerUser is the user name that the service is running as, for example,

LocalSystem.

When does this need to be done?

This is giving permission to the service to listen to incoming requests on the port. Applications can't just listen to incoming requests you have to ask permission. Certain built-in users already have this permission.

If the service is running as the below account this is required:

Domain User Account
Local User Account (user account on this machine only)
LocalService (special windows account)
NetworkService (special windows account, I'm not positive on this one so I'm putting it in the required list)

When it's not required:

LocalSystem (specials windows account)
