    Finding out why the menu action is grayed out

    Problem

    Sometimes you find that the menu label should be available but it’s not.
    For example,
    "Mark as Closed..." menu action (APM Method) under work order menu is grayed out (Visible- Irrelevant), although the work order is having "Completed" status.

    Solution

    There are certain conditions defined for "Grayed out" state of Methods in APM. These can be viewed using an administrator session and going to Enterprise/Customization Center, into ObjectQuest. It involves finding the method that is linked to the menu label you are trying to use and looking at the States that are defined for it. Possible state values for methods include;
    • Enabled
    • Toggled
    • Grayed out
    • Hidden
     
    For example, in a recent SR we determined that the "Mark as Closed..." menu label under the completed work order was grayed out due to outstanding approvals on material or service demands (7th condition in the below illustration)
