Data load import errors when special character, @, is included in the asset number field in the imported Excel spreadsheet.
Other than the occasionally use of delimiter characters such as hyphens or periods, the string for an asset number should only contain alpha numeric characters. So I suggest not using them in that particular field if you can avoid it. That being said, the asset number field is a string so it will actually support special characters being used even with the data loader functionality. The following special characters have all been successfully imported and processed successfully:- @ , .However, there is a challenge with the @. When importing spreadsheets with asset numbers containing an @ in them the import brought in the number with the Excel automatic formatting for @ whereby Excel recognizes the @ to indicator that the field contains an email address. So the test asset number "55@55" turns into the really strange "mailto:55@0.0.0.55", if this formatting translation exceeds the field length than that may cause a problem.
User needed to reformat the data within Excel. There are numerous autoformatting rules in excel so I'm only going to address the example of the @. All that is needed is for the user to right-click on the cell in excel and select "Remove hyperlink" which will remove the auto-formatting. Some users may also need set the column's format as "Text".
