Force user login via APM Smart-client and APM Remote client

Problem Description

Many end users have shared devices and share desktop login. They do not wish to force end-users to use a windows login on the desktop but do not want to use a generic user in APM or Remote.

Solution

To ensure that checksheets are properly logged it is important that the indicator readings be attributed to the actual data collector. This means that the user needs a credentialed login to APM, this is done via Bentley Connect login. By default, the connect client and APM client will use the Windows login assuming it is unique. To change this behaviour and force a user to login manually via Bentley Connect at launch do the following:

1. Find the shortcut to launch the client.

2. Right-click on the shortcut and select "Properties"

3. Click in the Target field and go to the end of the text, add "-at:switch_user". Click OK to save changes.

4. Launch the client. The end-user will then be prompted for their Bentley Connect account details or Windows authentication details.

5. If the end-user is not prompted to login, close the client and right-click on the shortcut and again select properties. Review the Target field for "-rs", delete "-rs" and click ok to save changes. Launch the APM client one more time.
