Problem Description

An APM User discovered when trying to use "Copy to" to push a change to any indicator property from an Indicator Template to an Indicator, such as updating indicator states, collection frequency, etc. would result in a client crash. This would only occur if the source Indicator Template/Indicator has a large amount of text and formatting Instructions field. This crash occurs even without trying to use copy to to push the Instructions. Note, this the indicator template can still be used to create new indicators without issue..

Solution

This issue has been reported it as a bug, ADO#1240597. Temporary workaround for pushing all attributes other than Instructions is to first copy the instructions text from the indicator template to a word document. The second step is to then remove the instructions from the template and save. Next step is use the "copy to" to push desired updates (except Instructions) to the target Indicators. Lastly, copy the instructions from word document back to the Indicator Template and save.
