Prototype Behavior with the Change Package Wizard

We are currently in the process of trying to figure out the configuration for the Change Package Wizard, and we are also looking at updating our change process.  A question arose the other day that I cannot answer.  When a prototype becomes approved and a revision to the original object is made, does the new object "suck in" the information from the prototype and then delete the prototype?  Essentially, does the prototype disappear and become the new, approved version?

  • The prototype does not disappear. It remains as a history of what took place to get to the new revision of the original object. When the prototype becomes approved and revision to the original object is made (through the Implementation step), the user, from the approved prototype, has the option to 'Merge with Base Object', which takes the information in the Prototype and overwrites (push) it into the new object revision.
