Problem Description:

After changing one or more options in the Product Activation Wizard of the License Management Tool (LMT) and then click the Finish button, user gets the following error:

  • Failed to contact the license server

Because of the error the change(s) made in the wizard will not be saved.

Cause:

One of the values specified in the wizard (or the combination of them) is not valid. Or, as it has been observed, the LMT is in a state where no values can be saved from the frontend until one of them is changed.

Solution:

Manually change one of the values in the registry.

  1. Run Regedit with administrative privileges
  2. Go to the following key:
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Bentley\Licensing\1.1
  4. Double click the variable you wish to change (e.g. Server, UseSSL)
  5. Enter the new value
  6. Click OK to save
