Advice please - Maintenance Manager - Standard Items / Sections / Sub-sections - MapCapture

We need a worked example to understand how these inter-relate - examples in Sys Admin Manual don't follow through.

In the past we've had section eg 700 (Pavements), and sub-section also 700 (Pavements).  As it stands, 700 stands in Mapcapture as a heading to all Standard Items which start 700/

We've now set up section 700 with sub-sections 001, 002 etc. (Test system of course)

We've changed several item codes to SISS = 001 (previously set to SISS = ALL).  (I assume SISS means Standard Item Sub Section)

I can see this change in the table STANDARD_ITEMS in column STA_SISS_ID.  But there will be times when we want to report on the Section, not just sub-section, and we can't see Section (700) in the table.  So what happens if we set up Section 100 with sub-section 001 - can we re-use 001, or do we need to make sub-section 001 unique to one section only?

  • Standard Item Sections (SIS) codes are really just a way of grouping Standard Item Sub Sections codes together for reference.

Standard Item Sub Sections(SISS) codes drive the processes within the system and are commonly referred to as field name SISS on the forms that display.

Standard Items form has fields SIS_ID and SIS_NAME, Standard Item Sub Sections form has fields  SISS_ID and  SISS_NAME , all these four fields are unique.

So a SISS code will always have an associated SIS code associated to it.  Different SISS codes can have the same SIS code.

Given there is a relationship between the tables STANDARD_ITEM_SECTIONS and STANDARD_SUB_SECTIONS  this can be exploited when producing bespoke analysis reports. One could also manually type in a reference to the appropriate SIS code in the SISS_NAME field ( for visible link reference ) in form Standard Item Sections and Sub-Sections - MAI3886 when creating. See  Admin Manual.

SISS_ID codes are stored against various tables you'll probably be most interested in the following Defects, Work_Order_Lines, Standard_Item_Sub_Sections., Standard_Items. So Bill of Quantity items( BoQ)  on works orders can relate back to standard items via item code which in turn have a SISS_ID . Work Order lines can use SISS codes as part of defect selection criteria -  if desired. Work Order Automation rules can also use SISS codes as part of the selection criteria for automatic creation of work orders. A Product Option DEF_SISS can be set to a default  value to be used when creating Defects via Web Mapping.

The SIS/SISS codes also get extracted as apart of the metadata export process ( ped file )  for import into external handheld devices so could be used for list of values selection etc.

A small number of standard reports use SIS code but not many.

    Hope this helps.
