If you find that your forms connection is often interrupted or performance is slow compared to a session launched when not connected via a corporate network, it is worthwhile exploring some of the advanced options available in the Java Control Panel.
For instance some users occasionally see an error message stating their connection has been lost and are forced to start a new forms session. This problem could occur if the forms session is routed via a proxy server which occasionally disconnects the session, or takes longer than normal to process the data traffic resulting in Oracle forms thinking the connection has been lost.
We also find that some forms sessions launched from within a corporate network to an external hosting site such as our MANAGEservice, appear less performant compared to those made from outside a corporate network, such as the users home PC. This is often down to a corporate networks security infrastructure monitoring the connection and introducing a bottleneck to the data stream.
There is an option in the Java Control Panel which will allows a forms session to try and make a direct connection rather than route it via a proxy server. This option may not make a difference as it really depends on the configuration of the businesses security infrastructure, however we have seen it make a big difference in many cases.
To try this:
Open the Java Control Panel via the Windows Control Panel, or by right clicking the Java icon in the Windows task tray when a forms session is open.
On the ‘General’ tab click ‘Network Settings’
Change the option from ‘Use Browser Settings’ to ‘Direct connection’
Click ‘OK then ‘Apply’, then ‘OK’ to close the Control Panel
You may have to close all internet browser sessions and establish a new forms session before any improvement can be seen. If the problem persists, please explore some of the other options available in the Java Control Panel.
