Our web server is running out of free disc space and after investigation we found a large number of log files. Can these be deleted?
Unfortunately you cannot just delete the log files. Oracle Weblogic will look for all log files on start-up and fail if any cannot be found.
You should first investigate why the log files are so large in size and/or number as this could indicate a problem with the server which needs further investigation.
To stop the log files using all of the free space on the server, one solution is to implement a log file rotation policy. This will limit the number of log files and rotate them as the size reaches a set threshold.
To do this:
Rotation Type = By Size
Rotation file size = 5000
Tick the ‘Limit number of retained files’ option to activate
Files to retain = 3
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for each server within Weblogic and then restart the server.
