When user attempts to connect to DB via SM, gets an error "Could not connect to database". Alternatively user attempts to connect via standard ArcMap database connection (from the Add Data button) and gets error: "Failed to Locate Library"Replication Steps: Attempt to connect to a fully patched ArcSDE 9.1 instance from Arcmap 9.1 w/out any patches.
These errors mean that Client (ArcMap) and server (ArcSDE) are on a different patch level. In other words you will probably need to patch the client (ArcMap)
For the Client you will need:- ArcGIS 9.1- Oracle ODTwithODAC1020221- ArcGIS Service pack 2 (http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=downloads.patchesServicePacks.viewPatch&PID=19&MetaID=11632)- ArcSDE Service pack 2 (http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=downloads.patchesServicePacks.viewPatch&PID=19&MetaID=1163)- ArcSDE General Update patch 3 http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=downloads.patchesServicePacks.viewPatch&PID=19&MetaID=1198 (the client bit). File: sde91-genpatch3-esri-win.zip (9 MB)
To find the service patch Level according to ESRI in http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&PID=19&MetaID=1198 :WindowsTo check for the presence of a Patch, for each file examine the unique identification information provided (right click, properties, version tab, item name, QFE Version). With only a few exceptions, all files modified as part of a Patch distribution can be uniquely identified in this manner. The identification string for this Patch should read:QFE-SDE-91-CQ00296780(this number is for the General Update patch 3 for ArcSDE 9.1)However, here- http://resources.arcgis.com/content/patches-and-service-packs?fa=viewPatch&PID=66&MetaID=1626 and towards the bottom of the page you can download PatchFinder.exe. I did and I only have Arcmap 9.1 on my machine and it said that no 9.x – 10 products were found. Not sure if this only applies for the server and arcsde.
