When adding a WMS layer in SM, user may get a WMS error stating that the spatial reference is not found or not supported by the service. OR The WMS layer and underlying data may not match.
This is usually because the underlying data does not have a spatial reference id (SRID) defined and the user added this layer first BEFORE adding the WMS layer. As a consequence the Data Frame View is set to UNKNOWN whereas the WMS service only supports specific SRIDs. The solution is:1. First Add the WMS layer2. Add any other data3. If the WMS layer and the other data do not align, go to menu View->Data Frame Properties. In the Properties window select the spatial references tab and then select from the tree view the required Coordinate System.
