[EAP2] Profile Curve Between Elements tool question

Hi,

As far as I remember, each vertical alignment in InRoads had to be defined in terms of curve type: either circular or parabola. In OpenRoads however, I've noticed that it's possible to have different types of curves in one alignment and I perceive this might leads to unwanted errors in VA design; that will result in a VA reports as shown below.

Hence, few questions:

1) Are there any plans to address this?

2) If not, can we have an option to define curve types that will prevent scenario I described above?

3) Also, when we're placing Vertical Curve, can we have information what parameter we're inputting - whether it's K value or Radii?

  • 1. You are right in that InRoads limited you to one type of curve type vertically (circular or parabola) as well as horizontally (arc or chord), but there is no such limitation in ORD. As such, it's considered Working As Designed and there are no plans to change it.

    2. I'll have to think about this. The only option I can think of for now is to "customize" the dialog (<right click> Customize) and hide the curve type option.

    3. Keep in mind that you can control this under the Design File Settings > Civil Formatting > Profile Settings. We could also look at putting something on the 'heads-up' prompt to show the user which is being used.

    It can cause a lot of problems when exporting Civil Geometry not only to native alg, but also when exporting to LandXML or IFC. In afforementioned discussion Kevin (Bentley colleague) said that he never heard about mixing curve types in a single geometric layout. Neither I ve heard.

    I really do believe user should have an option to lock curve type. Imagine hugh complex project an multiple usere invloved. Now it is really easy to mix curve types in a single geometry and fixing it is very cumbersome.

    I will appraciate if you re-think if this is the way software should work. A variable would be perfect here.

    btw. with such behaviour we enede with an alg wher we have two vertical curve types at the same time. We were told it is impossible but we have this alg for further generations ;)
