How practical/possible would it be (particularly for WOPI type Office docs) to provide similar capability to the traditional Office Attribute Exchange Rules and have Flow update fields (or similar?) with PW Attributes in Office documents? Just thinking out loud whilst struggling with the traditional Office integration on my desktop!
Neil
Hey Neil,
interesting idea.
To do this you would need to be able to read/write attributes in office documents. Today flow can read / write excel (but not attributes) and work a bit with contents in Word (very recently added to Flow) but only if these documents are in MS Office graph supported repositories, such as SharePoint & etc. This does not include ProjectWise, currently.
But it is something to investigate for the future.
P.S. Upcoming update of WRE will be able to do attribute exchange on server... maybe this will solve your problems?
Audrius
Hey Audrius, how's it going, is there anything to demo/test in terms of the new WRS and processing of Office docs?
Hi Neil, we are making good progress. This functionality will require the latest PWDI server and WSG Plugin that will be released soon. We will add attribute exchange action to Flow connector shortly after Design Integration server release.
Thanks Audrius, by latest versions, do you mean the current commercial release or the next one? We'd like to get some exposure to what migrating to the new WRS is like and any baseline performance metrics, is that possible?
Neil, Office attribute exchange will be in the next commercial release of ProjectWise, i.e. Update 3.2. It will have a server side WRE capability (good old WRE, just running on the server). Flow action will be follow very soon.
WRS (new cloud-based workflows) will be released some time later but it will require 3.2.
