RC Pier - Pier Wall with Cap

You can use the pier multi column option with just one column. Give the column the dimensions of the wall. Input the cap portion. For cap chose design at the face of support (Structural Model dialog).

Maybe you used to be able to do that, but apparently not anymore. RCPIER will not allow the use of only 1 column for me; it returned an error. I had to add additional dead load to correctly model the weight of the wall with a cap.

Please provide the version of the program you are using, and if it is the stand-alone version or part of LEAP Bridge Enterprise. What is the error you receive?

I believe it is the stand alone version (13.00.00.68), but I am not sure. I do not have a link to LEAP Bridge anywhere. It just tells me I cannot have only 1 column.

Even if there does turn out to be a way around this, I do not believe this is how RCPIER should operate. RCPIER has trouble doing P-Delta (I rarely get it to converge), for example, which is a pretty big feature to have not working. As a result, given that RCPIER is a black box, I have no doubt other things are happening behind the scenes I don't know about which makes me nervous. The fewer things designers need to fudge the better.

Attachment limit is 5MB. For decreasing the file size delete analysis by clicking the OK button on any loading tab. Then verify that analysis is not present and save the file with a slightly different name.
