LEAP RC-Pier Rotated Column on Pile Footing

We are working a substructure design in which, due to the geometry of the roadway, it may be necessary to have the column rotated at an angle from the orientation of the pile footing on which it sits.  In the past we've had to handle this via calculation outside of RC-Pier itself.  Is there a way to input the column as rotated or otherwise design the footing so that it treats the footing as having a rotated column above?

  • Hi Dustin,

Currently it is not possible to model a rotated column in Leap RCpier.

In Geomath there is an option for the user to Rotate the column.
The user needs to go to column option and then select the concerned column.
Once the column is selected the user needs to click on Properties and in the new window
the user can input the rotation angle and the rotated column and footing can be viewed graphically.
Then the user needs to update the model.

But even after the model is updated the program is not updating the model in RCPier.
So it looks like it is not possible to model a rotated column in leap RCpier.
Please see the attached screenshot which explains you the procedure.

The only workaround solution I can suggest is to create one more model in RCPier .
If you have the moments which are already being calculated at the bottom of the Rotated column then
convert that moment so that it can be applied in X and Z direction (Mxx and Myy direction) and apply that moment
at the bottom of column in the LOADS TAB for each Load case and then design the footing in RCPier. This is one way of designing footing in RCPier for rotated column. Please see the attached screenshots .

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

    Thanks ,
