I have to do an exterior beam design in consplice. I start with my interior beam and make changes to the geometry and loading. As you would expect, in the Geometry tab I specify that this will be an exterior girder and give the distance to the face of barrier of Live Loading. I specify that the Width(S) (beam spacing) will be 9 ft. I user input the Effective Width as 8.125'. The necessary dead loads are decreased since this is an exterior beam. I run it and something strange happens. The reactions due to component weight INCREASE when compared to the interior beam design. If I decrease the Effective Width more, the reaction due to component weight increases more. I'm almost 100% positive there's a bust in the program, maybe sign convention issue. Has anyone seen anything similar? Is there maybe something I'm missing?
