OBM - How do I add railing or fencing on top of a barrier?

For adding a railing on the deck it will be a two step process

• Place the Barrier
• Create a new item in the template for the Barriers which would have a circle to represent the top of the railing.  The circle is placed above the Working Point WP at the desired height of the railing:

• Create a 3D cell to represent the vertical supports. 

• Use this cell to place the vertical posts using the Auxiliary Path Placement tool:

Thanks Dilip! I will take a look at this as soon as I get a chance. I don't know about 3D Cells. Is that something that is just a regular MicroStation function or is it part of OBM?

Creation of a 2D or a 3D cell is a MicroStation function.

I know how to do 2D cells but I don't have experience with 3D cells. What is the best way to create them? Would I use the solids, surface or feature modeling tools?

For standard 3d shapes, like the railing to hold up the barrier, you can use solids or surface modeling. Depending on number of solids, there may be a slight performance hit when modeling solids instead of surfaces. Feature modeling is more parametric and could be useful for a complex abutment/wingwall type cell. Takes more time, but can be re-used across projects.
