OpenBridge V8i Custom Abutments

Does OpenBridge Modeler V8i have the functionality to create a template for a unique abutment shape.  The current templates does not allow me to create the exact abutment shape that I need.  I did notice V8i has the ability to create user created custom columns...not sure if there's a way to create a custom abutment.  Thanks.

  • Jamison, You can use the solid modeling tools in OBM V8i to create any abutment shape (or assembly of shapes, with footings, walls, caps etc.) you desire and create a cell. You must have some basic MicroStation familiarity to be able to create this cell. After you create a cell you can use the place custom pier tool to place the abutment at the desired PierLine (support line). While this will allow you to create a 3D model accurately, there are limitations on transferring this to the analytics program.

  • Thank you Sri.  Can you still generate quantities and other reports from this custom abutment model?  Also, can you still place a bearing group via OBM tools or does that need to be modeled with the solids tools too?

  • The bearings are attached to the bottom of the beams, but the concrete pedestals will not be able to react to the surface of the custom abutment. You could add a regular abutment and let the program compute the concrete pedestal heights, and then delete it as a workaround. For the quantities, if your abutment was created with solids, I guess you would see all the quantities reported as "cell" under substructure report.
