U-Framed Pedestrian Bridge - OBM

Hi, Is there a way to model this type of bridge via Steel girder bridge tools in OBM? if so, how can i achieve this?

Basically there are two beams but they are not at the bottom of the deck, rather in the sides with vertical stiffeners on side of the beams. There are also UB Bracing under the deck

Thanks

  • There is no option to create by default a bridge of that kind.

You can try to model the bridge with the current functionality but you will not get a full model.

    Things that I would do:

    - the deck should be the Main element, the one that gives all the elevations

    - the side girders I would model them like barriers

    - the crossbeams I would model them with crossframes (you will need 2 "dummy" beams to create the crossframes); you can hide the dummy beams in the model

    - the other parts like stiffeners for the main side girders I would model them like cells with Place Auxiliary by Path.

It will not be a 100% accurate design, but is better than doing it by hand.

    Hope this helps!

  • Vlad,

    Thanks for your input.

I have tried another method in which i created a false deck with two I beams on each side, put a vertical offset on the false deck so the beams will be on the correct position, then i created another deck without vertical offset, that way i can add the cross frames at the bottom of the slab because i have the steel girders and also add the stiffeners. Then turned off the display of the false deck.

    Cheers.
