[OBM CE] Deck Template Extension of Crosstall?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is any way to get a Deck Template point to use the slope between 2 adjacent points to define it's vertical elevation (ie. extension of crossfall) instead of defining a fixed slope value?

We want to be able to point control some deck template points to OpenRoads alignments and then extend further points outside the pavement areas using the same crossfall.

Regards,

Mark

  • 1. Create deck template that has the edge of extent of paved area defined with points aligned with two strings (see attached screen)

    2. Both strings have active vertical geometry

    3. Turn on the point control along strings for both hor & vert.

    4. Make sure you deck is generated outside of the paved area

    5. Extract face from deck solid (solid utylities)

    6. Use Mesh from element command o create mesh (fine the mesh to required accuracy)

    7. Create Terrain from element in Civils Ribbon

    8. Create profile from Surface and select created terrain (make sure that new vertical geom is active)

    9. In control points for deck definition link the edge with a new alignment for both (vert/hor)

    Enjoy

If anyone has shorther workflow , please provide.

    Regards

  • Thanks Pawel,

I'll have a look at it. Was hoping to have a more dynamic option.

What I was doing was using the Civil Geometry tools to create horizontal geometry and then using the Vertical Geometry tools to extend crossfall between 2 other Alignments and then use this as a Point Control.

I was hoping there was a Point Control function like the OpenRoads "Vector-Offset" one that applies the slope between 2 template points to another.

  • Mark, that was my first try and relevant email has been sent to OBM team in Bentley to investigate this further. In principle the crosfall extension can be done in parametric way but the software is unable to generate a deck solid once the edge is limited by horizontal geom through the control points option. Similarly to what ORD does. I think it is up to Bentley to confirm if both OBM and ORD use same engine for this process.

  • Thanks Pawel,

As of v8.2 i started using the Solids > Modify Solids tool with the Offset option as it has allowed me to Parametrically widen the deck solid out (and change values later).

Since then we have gone back to v8.1 due to some ORD interoperability issues, but looking forward to upgrading again once the issues are fixed so we can use the Solid tools to edit the deck solids (non-destructively) again.
