How do I update the schema of a .dgn file I'm using as a reference?

You can update the file in 2 ways:

- open the referenced file inside the working file; you can do that by going to references, right-click on the referenced file and choose Activate; after the file was activated, just deactivate;

- just open the referenced file directly by using the last version of OBM

Will activating the referenced file in OBM affect the file's relationship with other software, such as Microstation or InRoads? My reference belongs to another discipline that does not use OBM, so although I'd like to to solve this error message, I also need to avoid interfering with their files.
