LEAP Prestressed Vertical Shear

Hi,

The vertical shear output table for prestressed concrete includes all the parameters necessary to calculate (or confirm LEAP's calculation of) epsilon_s, the longitudinal strain at the centroid of the prestressing steel.  There is no apparent way, however, to confirm LEAP's calculation of eps_s.  This is true whether the main code provisions are used (Eq. 5.7.3.4.2-4 in LRFD 8), or whether the Chapter 5 Appx B provisions are used (Eq. B5.2-3).  With the output table providing M, V, Aps, dv, and fpo, one would think that these values could be plugged into one of the above noted equations and get the result that LEAP has under eps_s, or for the Appx B provisions, this would be eps_x.  And I am checking that Mu is not taken less than Vu x dv.  Could you please show me, potentially with some sort of simple example hand calculation, how LEAP is determining these longitudinal strains?

A related request is if you could confirm that LEAP does not use the AASHTO provision that if eps_s calculates to a negative value, it shall be taken as zero, or recalculated with the term EcAct in the denominator.  Since my very typical box beam design is showing negative values of eps_s, I guess I can assume that LEAP does not use the AASHTO provision that negative eps_s can be taken as zero.  But if so, then why does the output file not show the parameters Ec and Act which would then be required?

Thank you for your assistance regarding this request for information.
