RM Bridge - required reinforcement - Wizard model

Hi everyone,

I have one question regarding the amount of the reinforcement required in calculation.

Namely, I modeled the composite bridge structure using Wizard option in RM Bridge. For longitudinal reinforcement, wizard already defined the A1 reinforcement. After calculation, only in the element where

defined A1 reinforcement wasn't enough, the A2 reinforcement appeared as additional.

The thing I am curious about is how the software calculates that user-defined A1 reinfocement, in this case Wizard? How it chooses that specific value?

The following figure shows the amount of required reinforcement with A1 input of 17.69 cm2 (Wizard definition)

The next figure shows the amount of required reinforcement with A1 input of 5.33 cm2 (user-defined-me)

According to this, final amount of required reinforcement in slab at the ends of the beam is different depending on input A1 reinf.

Why this is happening? Did anyone had similar experience?

Thank you

  • Hi Ivana, you need to check in Analyzer>Structure>Elements>Checks how the program is considering the reinforcement area value calculation. It depends on this definition. If you want you can send me RM files for further investigations: anacarla.peres@bentley.com

  • Hi Ana,
I checked mentioned path. Default definition for area value A1 was 17.69 cm2. But I want to know why software chose that value. When I do the hand calculation, minimum reinforcement of 5.33 cm2 is enough for slab element. Also, when I change that A1 value from 17.69 to 5.33, final amount at the diagram for slab longitudinal reinforcement is different as shown in diagrams above (asked in question).
So, I am just curious how final required reinforcement is changing depend on area value input. Is there some kind of optimization?

I am sending the tcl files

    Kindest regards
