Created DGNLIB for Bridge Workflow - Cannot get Drawing Boundary by Named Boundary to work properly

Plan Only - Bridge Construction Layout.dgnlibTest 7.dgnSurveyDeliver2DExport-2DTopoFile.dgn

Hello- I have been working on creating a workflow for our Bridge group and would appreciate any help with my troubleshooting.

I am using a Microstation 2D seed file referencing Civil Survey and placing a Civil Baseline.

I am using OpenBridge 8.2 Update 8 to create the file but have the same issue with OpenRoads 2020 R2.

I created a DGNLIB which has a Named Boundary - Civil Plan for the lower portion of the sheet and I placed a Detail Drawing Boundary in the Top portion of the sheet.

I can start a new DGN, Place Named Boundary - Civil Plan and select the Bridge DGNLIB I created and it will create the Sheet and place that named boundary in the bottom.

The trick is getting the Detail portion to work properly. I am currently testing things outside of ProjectWise using a local workspace. As soon as I'm able to, I will be testing inside ProjectWise.

When I select Place Named Boundary from Drawing Boundary, it does show my Drawing Boundary in the list and I select it.

When it gets to the Create Drawing Dialog, the only choices are the ones from:

"C:\Program Files\Bentley\OpenBridge Modeler CONNECT Edition\OpenBridgeModeler\Default\Dgnlib\DrawComp\en\DrawingSeed.dgnlib"

I found that if I comment out the MS_DGNLIBLIST in the msdirs.cfg, these options go away.

Alternatively, I can use Detail_2d_English_SheetOnly and it will place it in my upper boundary but I do not get a drawing model.

If I use anything else, it places that boundary way outside of the sheet and or crashes the program.

We need to be able to create a drawing model as well as append the existing sheet for the 2nd Named Boundary.

Here is a video of the issue I'm running into:

I have attached my DGNLIB as well as one of my test files and the Civil Survey file.

Thanks in advance!

  • Thanks Mary! I did not see OpenBridge when I began so I picked what I thought would be best. I will get it moved and see about getting some of the files uploaded.

  • You probably need to take this to the OpenBridge or OpenRoads community for more direct responses. Make sure that you tell us specifically what version you are using, because there have been many releases, and they all have different tools, fixes and issues. You can Move your post with the "More" option

Projectwise is also potentially going to complicate things, so be sure to mention that. Just because you can get it functioning outside of ProjectWise doesn't mean it will carry over into the managed workspace so easily.

A DGNLIB can have many models, design drawing and sheet. Are you sure that you created all the models properly?
Deleting the MS_DGNLIBLIST variable isn't really a solution...

Are you using a client standard? If so, they often provide you with the configuration and resource files you need. If those are part of your managed ProjectWise environment, you could be missing a lot of that (which would otherwise show up automatically).

You may need to break this video up into shorter segments to focus on one issue at a time. You were doing so many things that it was honestly difficult to know where to start. Pick one thing that doesn't work the way you expect. Start there. Describe that one thing in as much detail as you can, and how the result isnt what you expect.

Posting your files here would also help the people who know how these things work to pick apart until they find what might be wrong.
