Hi,
I'm working on an abutment design and am trying to check pile reactions using the bolt/rivet theory as described on the RM Wiki page: Abutment Design -- Pile Reaction calculation
I have 2 questions:
1) I just wanted to quickly confirm the formula presented on the page is correct:
2) The pile tab output indicates forces used to determine the pile reactions are located at the centroid of the footing. If using the calculation noted above, I get much closer values to the generated pile reactions by applying the load at the centroid of the pile group vs footing.
Many thanks in advance!
MJ
1) The equation is correct the nomenclature might be incorrect.
2) As per the link in your question: When the user clicks on Pile Reaction TAB, internally the program calculates the CG of the Pile group and then the forces and moments are transferred to the centroid of the pile group and then forces are distributed to the piles based on equation shown in the attached screenshot. the piles reactions are calculated by applying the load at the centroid of the pile group.
