Redefine overhang/bridge deck width in LEAP Steel without the need to redefine all bridge components.

Is there a way to redefine the bridge deck width in LEAP Steel without the need to redefine all the cross frames/stiffeners/field splice parameters again. Does not leap allow you to redefine the overhang/bridge width without resetting all the parameters again?

  • Hi Emad,

    Please follow this procedure.

    1) In the Cross section dialog box modify the left and right width.

    2) The program is not changing the cross frame or stiffeners/field splice parameters.

    3) user has to change the Left and Right edge offset of the slab so that original distance between the girders is maintained.

Please let me know if this is the information you are looking for.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Thank you for answering my question. But I am still facing the same problem. I forgot to mention that my bridge is skewed with two different skew angles; 61 degrees at Abut A and 58 degrees at middle pier and abut B. I agree with you that changing the overall deck width does not automatically delete the cross frames/stiffeners definition. However, once you open the member group menu (after changing the deck width), even without making any change if you just open it then press okay, you will find all the definitions are gone.

I got your point that this is attributed to the change in beam length. So, what I did is that in member groups menu, I changed the overhang widths and maintained the original spacings between the beams, I found that the beam lengths are still not matching the original ones with a difference of 0.005 ft. This difference is mainly because of the approximation in the skew angle or whatsoever. But due to this small difference, all parameters are gone, and I cannot find a way to solve it.

I will be grateful if you can find a solution for that issue.
