Creating a 'dumb' 3D model from Openbridge model

Is there a method to tranfrom/export an Openbridge model with is dependent on the road control line to a simple 3D model with no dependents.

I am trying to supply a simple 3d model to DWG users and our model does not transfer when sent directly from Openbridge.

Cheers

  • Hello Sri,

Can we make improvements into this export command? One thing i noticed is it only exports 'Smart Solid' type of elements, how about all other types of solids are included in the export? (Parametric solid, Parametric Cell etc.). Because aside from OBM elements we are modelling some elements manually.

Another thing I noticed is instead of exporting the solids into the 'Default' model of the new file, it creates a new model called OBM-Exported Solids and that model is hidden in the view dialog, so its quite confusing?

It would be good as well if this can be integrated to ProjectWise, because when the command is ran even when you're on ProjectWise the software directs you to save the file in the local drive.

In our experience its better to share a 'dumb down version' of the bridge model to the client instead of sharing the OBM model cause it has alot of reference lines/unwanted elements that even you turn it off it still appears when viewed on other softwares (Aside from bentley)

    Cheers,

    Cris

  • Cris:

Place a Fence around the extents of the bridge in a top view. Then use the Save Fence to File command to save the bridge to a new file. That may produce the result you desire.

  • Hi Steve,

Yes we are already doing that, i created a script which would place a fence, gets the file name and saves it to ProjectWise using that file name.

The problem I'm seeing on it is it also exports 'Extended Elements' and other elements that you can select but cannot see. I think those are the Levels that OBM use to wrap the bridge elements. We can select those Extended Elements using element selection and delete them, but for the other elements they can't be deleted.

Would be good if we can have an option that would export all the solids in a particular model (OBM solids and manually modeled solids) to a clean file.

The bmgeom export debugsolids command does that and it's more clean but needs some work..

Here's the example of the Extended Elements, when I zoom in I can't see those elements.
