I am running a two-span curved steel girder in LEAP Bridge Steel Version 22.00.04.34. The issue I am having is the program is automatically assigning the cross-frame connection at top/bottom an E' category when checking the fatigue limit state of the girder. I am not sure why this fatigue category is being assigned as it is not applicable to the girder. The cross-frame angle welded to the cross-frame gusset plate is an E' detail, but that does not apply to the girder itself as the gusset plate will be bolted to the connection plate. The program is checking the C' detail of the Transverse stiffener (connection plate) welded to the girder at the cross-frame locations which is appropriate. Is there a setting somewhere I can turn off this fatigue cross-frame check?
Hi Zachary,
In the previous versions the category C’ (4.1) was implemented for the fatigue check of welded x-frame members, as the category C’ (4.1) is applicable to the welded stiffener connections. In the current release version the category E’ (7.2) is replaced with category C’ (4.1) for the welded x-frame members.
Fatigue Design check are based on girder forces and it is not based on Cross frame members or stiffeners and these failures are shown at POI's where CF is connected. In the Future version CF member design will be done for fatigue.
Change in Connection type (Welded or Bolted) in the Cross Frame/Diaphragm Locations Dialog box is the workaround solution.
Future implementation to expose where user can select or change the category in CF location dialog box is underway. Please note down the enhancement request number "" Product Backlog Item 1215326"" for your future reference.
