Quesion about Nonlinear Temperature Profile in RM Bridge

This is the 2m * 1.2m section  and the corresponding nonlinear temperature points defined in Modeller

This is the same section and its nonlinear temperature profile that is shown in the Analyzer

1. For the 2nd temperature point counting from the top down, it is in the "red" region, which is in the range of 18-25 degree; for the 3rd temperature point, it is in the "yellow" region, which is abou 12 degree.

While in the modeller, this 2nd point corresponds to 6.7 degree only, and 3rd point corresponds to 0 degree.

Why there are the differences?

2. I made a test:

A 10m long beam with both ends fixed. The section has the above nonlinear temperature profile.

Below are the axial forces from RM Bridge, Lusas and Sofistik

Below are the moments from RM Bridge, Lusas and Sofistik

This is results by hand

As you can see,

the axial force from RM Bridge (3821 kN), while it is 1072 kN from Lusas, Sofistik and hand-calculation

the moment from RM Bridge (3269.5 kNm), while it is 962.5 kNm from Lusas, Sofistik and hand-calculation

RM Bridge model is attached.

  • Hi netsonic, Thank you for the file.

If non-linear temperature profile is not well displayed in Analyzer results won't be correct.

Something is going  to be investigated by our Development team about this matter.

Although, there is another way for calculating non-linear temperature in RM, that is through "TempVar" schedule action.

Using this way, the diagrams obtained are the below ones:

Let me know if any other help is needed.
