Two Instances of OBM

Is there a way to open two instances (two different dgns in the same OBD standalone file group) of OBM using OBD on ProjectWise?

  • Hi Bryan,

Yes you can. Just hold down SHIFT while opening the 2nd DGN and it will open up the file in a new session.

  • That used to work without OBD. I cannot open a dgn directly through ProjectWise using OBD, I get an error.

Holding shift does not work within OBD. Also, I can open a second instance of OBD, but if I try and open a file from that second instance, it'll still ask me if I want to check in the file from the first instance.

  • Hello,  i read about your problem and i want to tell you that this is not big problem just fix to it you should follow this steps ,

As of my last update in September 2021, Bentley OpenBuildings (OBM) has not officially supported opening two instances (two different designs) in the same OBD (OpenBuildings Designer) standalone file group using ProjectWise.

In ProjectWise, when you open a design file (DGN) from the OBD standalone file group, it typically opens in the same OBM instance. Trying to open another design from the same OBD standalone file group will generally prompt you to close the existing design before opening the new one.

However, Bentley software and features are continuously evolving, and there may have been updates or enhancements since my last knowledge update. I recommend checking Bentley's official documentation, user forums, or contacting Bentley support directly to see if there have been any changes or workarounds to achieve the behavior you desire.

Keep in mind that software behavior can vary depending on versions, configurations, and specific licensing options. It's always best to consult the latest documentation or seek support from the software provider for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

If you are not insist my answer reply i will explain in detailed.

    Thank you.

  • Bryan ... based on the error message, GDOT is checking the version of OpenBridge that you have installed vs what the workspace is configured to work with. They are using OpenBridge 2022 R1 aka V10.11.xx.xx.

You check your installed version by select File > About from the OBD screen.
