Walls in RC Pier

I am designing a two stage pier wall.  There is no option for just a wall in RC pier.  Is there a way to trick the program, I have tried a couple of different options but none have worked.  The top wall is tapered in both directions and the bottom wall does not have tapers.

  • 1)Go to Pier configuration  select Multi column  Columns shape  select Rect. Tapered in X,Z dir.  Cap Shape  Straight.

    2)In Cap  input the cap information . .

3)In Column first input the column dimension in X and Z direction at elevation 0  Input the column dimension in X and Z at elevation 15 ft ( you can give your own height)  Then you can change the dimension for the remaining height in X and Z direction .

4)If you want to add a spread/pile footing you can add later on in Footing TAB.

  • It has been a while since I was working on that project.  Using how you had input and the example you gave me, i was getting #8 bars at about 1" ctrs. just for deadload, if I remember right.  This was just using your example.  Is there a reason for this?  Also, is there a way to not enter a cap in the program.  Also, we tried to put a footing into the design when doing this example but couldnt get it to go in.  I know you got it to model this type of Pier, but has anyone else ever tried to use this program for this type of pier?

  • Please email me the rcpier file and I will look into the issue. Send me the sketch of the pier and footing so that I can help you to model the pier and footing information.

    Are you getting #8 @ 1” c/c for the pier ?

The user has to model the pier cap while modeling the Wall pier . But the user can input very minimal thickess for the pier cap.

The latest version Rcpier available on Bentley website is V10.00.01.20.

Please let me know what version of Rcpier you are using.

    Thanks & Regards,
