LEAP bridge problems

Hello all:

I am having an extremely difficult time getting through my bridge design on LEAP bridge.  Especially while working in GEOMATH and RC PIER.

In GEOMATH:

Problem #1: Back when I was trying to make minor adjustments to the geometry of the bridge, the program would almost always crash and give me an error message saying "out of memory".  I have never been able to successfully do anything in GEOMATH due to this problem.  I just have to start over and recreate the entire 3D model from scratch.

In RC PIER:

Problem #1: I am now attempting to design a drilled shaft foundation for pier 2 of my four span bridge project (13'-9" column and 48'-10" shaft).  I say trying b/c everytime I get the cap and columns designed, the program crashes on me.  I was lucky enough to print my design status to a PDF giving me a hard copy, but there is no design file to support my calculations.  Also, when the program crashes, it also takes the entire input file I've created in RC PIER (such as geometry and loads) and completely erases them.

Problem #2:  When I attempt to take my work from the drilled shaft design from RC PIER, the LEAP bridge 3D model never seems to update correctly.  I am trying to model a drilled shaft foundation (13'-9" column and 48'-10" shaft), but everytime I close out of RC PIER (minus design calcs due to problem #1 above) and update the model, the columns completely disappear and it only models the cap floating above the ground.

Please let me know if you've experienced any of the problems listed above, and if you know of any solutions.

Thank you!

  • It seems that your issues are related to some specific design files.

If you are a user of Bentley LEAP products, the best way to resolve the issues is to contact Bentley’s Technical Service Group (TSG) via:

    Service Ticket Manager (www.bentley.com/serviceticketmanager)

Once the issues are reported into the system, the TSG will help you in a timely manner.

  • I have encountered similar issues plus much much more. Both Leap Steel and Leap Concrete crash a lot. When that happens, most if not all of your input is gone as it doesn't offer option to save your work before finish entering all the fields in either super-structural or substructure design. As I am typing this right now, the Leap steel substructure module has mysteriously moved all the available trucks into the selected windows after I hit generate. I have tried to select just one design truck and after generating the reaction forces failed, I went back in the generate window and found out all the available trucks are in the selected window. Extremely frustrating program.
