A few RC-PIER users recently asked questions about the two analysis options in the abutment design and the related footing design reports. Here is some clarification. In abutment design, when "Cap as continuous beam" is selected for the frame analysis method, all out-of-plane forces are ignored in the analysis. So, in order to obtain lateral loads on piles along bridge, a user may simply switch to "Piles integral with cap" for the frame analysis method, and the out-of-plane governing load case will be shown in the report of the pile lateral resistance check.
