Wind Load Auto Generation

I have created a Leap Bridge Enterprise file consisting of a 3 span precast girder Conspan Model, and single column bents with bent caps created in RC-Pier.

I'm trying to generate WS loads from the Auto Generate feature.  I assume the Wind Pressure for superstructure are generated from the depth of my modeled superstructure, correct?  Does this include precast girders, slab AND barrier?  Please let me know, thanks.  Any way to generate wind forces on a soundwall?

  • Hi Mark,

    1) On your first question you are right that the wind pressure for superstructure are generated based on the depth of the modeled superstructure.

    2) Yes it includes Precast girder , Slab and barrier.

    3) I'm not sure where the sound wall is located you have to attach a picture showing how the sound wall will be constructed.

    4) If the barrier height is increased to act as  sound wall then the program will consider the depth of the sound wall also.

    5) A detailed hand calculation on how the wind loads are generated is available in the Tutorial hand calcs  (Tutorial Example 1 hand calcs).

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

    Thanks,

    Vinay

  • Thanks Vinay,

    A couple follow-up questions:

What does Conspan/RC-Pier assume for the barrier height that is subjected to wind loads?  Can this be edited?  I have a 42" tall barrier.

I dont have a soundwall, but a access restriction fence on top of the barrier that will have a 3 ft tall solid metal plate along it that will be subjected to wind loads.  Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks.
