QUESTION: Why is that the program is checking stresses at top of the topping ? AASHTO 5.14.1.4.6 does not require this check.

ANSWER:

The program will check the top of the toppings only if that option is checked. 

If the user does not want to check the stresses at the top of deck then he/she needs to go to

Analysis TAB --> Design parameters --> Limiting Stresses TAB --> UNCHECK the option "Compute Stresses at Top of Deck".
